Project Overview

This project involved a comprehensive interior and exterior renovation of an existing heritage house, balancing historical preservation with modern functionality. Heritage restoration included masonry replacement, cleaning, infill, and wood restoration to maintain the building's architectural integrity. Interior work encompassed demolition, new exterior wall framing, and partitions, along with the installation of a complete HVAC system featuring ductwork and individual AC units for each apartment. A new plumbing system was implemented to accommodate sanitary facilities, individual showers, and kitchens, while a new sprinkler system and upgraded electrical system, including panel upgrades, conduits, and fixtures throughout, were also installed. Exterior improvements included fencing, paving, and planting enhancing both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the property.

About the Client

Native Men’s Residence (Na-Me-Res) is a vital Toronto-based not-for-profit organization that provides culturally sensitive emergency shelter, transitional housing, and long-term independent living for Indigenous men. Guided by Indigenous traditions and values, Na-Me-Res supports residents on their healing journeys while promoting self-sufficiency and community connection. Over the years, Na-Me-Res has grown to include outreach programs, cultural services, and housing support for Indigenous families and individuals. With a mission rooted in respect, dignity, and reconciliation, the organization plays a critical role in addressing homelessness and supporting the wellness of Indigenous peoples in the urban landscape.
